WORLD MUSIC WEEKEND at The Hermon!!! By now well-known for its ambitious programming across a wide spectrum of genres, The Hermon is launching its new World Music Concert Series (Hermon World – HW) with a big fireworks of musical virtuosity that brings maestros in their field to Oswestry, and with them an abundance of joy to brighten up dark nights in the sticks!
Saturday’s concert of The Rail Abandon, an energy-packed band consisting of UK and Ghanaian musicians, is followed by an early Sunday evening performance of no lesser than one of the finest exponents in Indian classical music: slide guitarist Manish Pingle flown in directly from Mumbai! Manish is internationally highly regarded for his expressive play and has received an exclusive honour by the World Book Of Records for his matchless contribution to the world of Indian slide guitar.
ABOUT THE CONCERT:
Through his music Manish Pingle will take the audience on a journey to different states of India. His repertoire for the night will include traditional Indian classical music followed by semi-classical compositions based on ragas and folk music from various parts of India. He will perform together with Birmingham-based tabla player Pulkit Sharma, an accomplished musician in his own right.
MORE ABOUT MANISH:
Manish was introduced to Indian classical music by his parents and started his initial training in Indian slide guitar with late Shri Vishnu Walivadekar of Indore. He is one of the senior disciples of the legendary sitar player Ustaad Shahid Parvez of Itawa Gharana.
Today he ranks amongst the few leading Indian slide guitar players of India, tours major music festivals in India, and also showcased his talent in countries like Spain, Sweden, Italy, Portugal, Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, France, Germany, China, Japan, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, UK, Belgium and Switzerland.
Having won many accolades performing traditional Indian classical music concerts, he also collaborates frequently with International music maestros and orchestras such as saxophone legend George Brooks, blues singer and guitarist, Michael Messer, French music composer Hector Zazou, African kora player Lamine Cissokho and the Frementle Orchestra, Perth.
The recent album Call Of The Blues, jointly recorded with Michael Messer, was leading the Transglobal World Music Chart for three consecutive months and topped iTunes UK for two consecutive months. He has been awarded with the title ‘Surmani’ by Surshringar Samsad, Mumbai and is a recipient of the Manohar Madgaonkar Music Excellence Award by Camroon Creations Goa.
And as if all this was not enough yet to fill a life of musical endeavours: Manish also qualified as sound engineer at the Film & TV Institute of India in Pune and worked on popular films such as ‘Life of Pi’, ‘Eat, Pray Love’ and ‘Basmati Blues’. In his capacity as a teacher he has lectured at the University of Tokyo, Japan and shares his knowledge and skills on a regular basis with many students worldwide.
