Five day classical music festival with lunchtime and evening concerts.
Internationally recognised musicians will contribute to Bridgnorth’s 26th annual English Haydn Festival. They include the celebrated oboe player Mark Baigent, the brilliant forte-pianist & conductor Steven Devine, violoncellist Pavel Serbin, flute virtuoso Eva Cabellero, and renown violinist & leader of the Festival orchestra Simon Standage.
This year’s theme focuses on Haydn’s Friends, Patrons & Colleagues with orchestral performances of his symphonies, an oboe concerto and violin concerto, and quartets by his friends Mozart, Beethoven, Dittesdorf, Vanhal , and other eighteenth century composers, performed by the Consone & Salomon Quartets.
Haydn’s appreciation and study of music commenced as a choirboy at St Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna. His creative composing started during his late teenage years after studying the works of C.P.E. Bach whilst employed briefly at Baron Furnberg’s court in Vienna from 1754 to 1756.
