Wrekin College is delighted to have secured the rights for this iconic musical from the pen of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. Featuring classic songs such as Do-Re-Mi, Edelweiss, Sixteen going on Seventeen, My Favourite Things, The Sound of Music and of course the epic Climb Every Mountain, please join us for what will be a delightful evening of wonderful music, set in a story that takes place during the looming threat of the Nazi takeover of Austria, but one in which love, courage and freedom prevail.
A masterpiece of the romantic era that showed Verdi as a true compositional craftsman, the requiem was not written with Verdi’s dying breaths but 27 years before he died. Originally planned to coincide with the 100th anniversary of Rossini’s birth in 1869 the Requiem finally took to the stage in Milan in 1874.
Our soloists for the concert are Ellie Parsons (soprano), Ruth Theobald (mezzo soprano), Robert Tilson (tenor), Themba Mvula (bass) together with the combined choruses of the Wrekin College Chapel Choir and Wrekin College Community Choir
