What better way to spend Bank Holiday Monday than with a day at the races, as the North Shropshire Point-to-Point takes place at Eyton-on-Severn.
Now in its 96th year, this popular race meeting is a wonderful day out for the whole family! In addition to the thrill of the races and betting with Bookmakers, there will be children’s entertainment, a hound parade, a great selection of food from local suppliers, including Fordhall Farm hog roast, ice cream and crepes; a licensed bar, and stalls selling country clothing and equine accessories.
The Point-to-Point at Eyton is an amateur form of steeple chasing, set in beautiful rural Shropshire. Racegoers enjoy panoramic views, including Wenlock Edge, the Wrekin and the Long Mynd. A popular venue for local jockeys and trainers, this year sees the return of many experienced point-to-point riders as well as a host of new, young jockeys, hoping for wins for the first time at Eyton.
James Tanner, Joint Chairman of the Point-to-Point Committee commented, “We are delighted to be celebrating our 96th year of Eyton Races – it truly is a wonderful event in the racing calendar.
“Why not enjoy a fantastic family day out in the glorious Shropshire countryside on Bank Holiday Monday? It’s a fun filled day for everyone. We would like to thank our sponsors, organisers and helpers for their continued support, and we hope that, whatever the weather, people will come to Eyton Races and enjoy a great day out.”
Admission is £15 on the gate but for the first time ever tickets can now be prebooked online: www.eyton-races.com/buy-tickets , under 16’s go free. Dogs on a lead are most welcome and car parking is free.

The Regatta is one of the oldest events in the rowing calendar, having first been held in 1871. Races will take place on the River Severn in Shrewsbury between English Bridge and the boathouses opposite the Quarry. The organisers expect around 1500 competitors to take part from rowing clubs all over the country. Races will take place roughly every three minutes throughout the day on both the Saturday and the Sunday and with supporters from the competing clubs cheering the crews on the atmosphere should be full of excitement.
There will be races for 8’s, 4’s and pairs as well as quad, double and single sculling boats. Competitors will include men, women, juniors and veterans.
Entry to the regatta for spectators will be free of charge and the public will be able to watch the racing from the river banks on both sides of the river. There will be a bar and barbecue as well as other refreshments for all the family.
