Martyn Joseph is a completely unique and mind blowing artist. Take everything you think you know about singer songwriters….and rip it up. For one man and a guitar he creates a performance with a huge far-reaching sound that is energetic, compelling and passionate. Be it to two hundred people or twenty thousand, he blows the crowd away night after night.
April 2019 saw him win a “Wales Folk Award” for “Here Come The Young”, the title track of his most recent album, of which Uncut magazine said “He’s never sounded more potent than he does here”
In 2018 he was honoured with a ”Spirit of Folk” Award by Folk Alliance International in Kansas USA and he also received Fatea magazine’s “Lifetime Achievement Award” here in the UK.
He is gifted with the rare ability to speak to the soul with his expressive and poignant lyrics and has a career spanning 30 years, 32 albums, over a half a million record sales and thousands of live performances.
Compared to Bruce Springsteen, John Mayer, Bruce Cockburn and Dave Matthews, he has created his own style and reputation as a mesmerizing live performer and stands in his own right, built on a reputation for giving what thousands have described as the best live music experience of their lives.
A unique talent driven by passion, social awareness and love for his trade, he’s a jaw dropping guitar player who has developed a unique percussive style, teamed up with a powerful show stopping voice, and has been called “The Welsh Springsteen”
Concerned with making music that is relevant and vital to his audience, he engages with challenging narratives tackling the complexity of the human condition, underpinned with a promise of hope. In his own words “Really what I do is to try and write songs that might step up and make some sense of a moment in time. A good song makes you feel like you’re not alone in the world.”
He is hailed as a raconteur weaving tales on topical concerns, as well as stories on the fragility of love, with a magical ability to reach out to his listeners through his passion and humour. Stunning reviews single him out as an unmissable solo performer whose music stays with you long after the show has ended.

Shrewsbury resident, Jonathan Cutbill, who died in 2019 was a co-founder of Gay’s the Word bookshop, London, who created an extensive LGBTQ+ library in his home.
Presentation 2 – ABOUT THE EVENT
Saving ‘Gay’s The Word’
The second Memorial Presentation: Graham McKerrow, activist and journalist who launched ‘Capital Gay’
In April 1984, Customs officers raided Gay’s The Word and the homes of its staff and directors including Jonathan Cutbill’s and seized thousands of books, many by respected authors claiming they were indecent.
They wanted to stop the importation of all LGBT fiction and non-fiction and brought 100 charges of conspiracy to import indecent material; a major Old Bailey trial was set.
Defend Gay’s The Word campaign fought back. In 1986, shortly before the trial was due to start, Customs dropped all the charges and returned all the books. This is the story of a triumph.

Celebrating a fantastic 21 years touring in 2019, the UK’s longest running Musical Theatre Concert Tour features past principal performers from Les Miserables and delivers over two hours of the best of Broadway and the West End, ending of course with a stunning finale from Les Mis.
This brand new show will include many of the best numbers that have made BEYOND THE BARRICADE the most popular musical theatre concert in the country. The concert features David Fawcett (Valjean), Andy Reiss (Enjolras & Resident Director for the National Tour of Les Miserables), Katie Leeming (Eponine) and Poppy Tierney (Cosette), together with a live band that capture the feel of the original orchestrations of the chosen musicals.
To this day, every musical note is still played and sung live – very rare indeed. BEYOND THE BARRICADE gives musical theatre songs a bold concert format treatment – but with the conviction and intention to deliver the material as if the audience are watching the original performance.
Vera van Heeringen’s debut album, Standing Tall, was released in 2012 and marked a change of direction after nearly five years of touring as part of the brilliantly comedic New Rope String Band. With influences firmly rooted across the Atlantic, Vera writes soulful songs and tunes with lyrics and delivery speaking straight to – and from – the heart. A highly skilled instrumentalist, she has long been recognised for her graceful yet gutsy guitar playing. In 2015 Vera released her second album, Proper Brew, which features a list of musicians who share her musical aesthetic, including Tim O’Brien, Dirk Powell, Rayna Gellert and Kris Drever. A third album is upcoming.
It’s unusual to find someone who’s as good a songwriter as an instrumentalist, who brings the guitar to life in way that is entirely her own.
