Acclaimed American Blues Guitarist-Singer-Songwriter Brooks Williams is due to pay his much awaited third visit to The Hermon, this time for the special occasion of celebrating his 30th Anniversary of being on the road! His years of prolific International touring have led to numerous fruitful collaborations playing music from the roots of early country-blues legends such as Robert Johnson and Blind Willie McTell, through to Jazz, Folk and Americana. For the 30th Anniversary Tour, Williams will be joined alternately by fiddler Aaron Catlow, singer-songwriter Rab Noakes, and Bonnie Tyler’s pianist Phil Richardson! For Williams’ and Richardsons’ stop at The Hermon expect a winning combination of New Orleans piano grooves, Piedmont guitar picking and two soulful voices blending beautifully!
“At the top of his game, setting new standards and a fresh direction for the blues.”
– Blues In Britain
“Brooks Williams would undoubtedly be hailed as one of the acoustic guitar gods of our time were he not also such a sweet singer and smart songwriter.” – The Boston Globe
“He’s a lovely player, a lovely singer, and a great writer – Brooks Williams is the real thing!”
– Martin Simpson
Georgia-born Brooks Williams released his first album early in 1990 to a glowing review by The Washington Post, followed by further wide-spread acclaim and a pivotal appearance on National Public Radio’s show ‘All Things Considered’ with Noah Adams. His first touring activities were set in motion and 30 years later Williams is more than ever known as consummate, hard-gigging artist, performing hundreds of shows every year and recording at dizzying pace. When he is not solo, he is collaborating with the likes of Hans Theessink, Guy Davis, Boo Hewerdine, Rab Noakes, Jim Henry and Sloan Wainwright.
In 2013 Brooks was nominated ‘Best Male Vocalist’ by the UK’s foremost roots-music mavens, Spiral Earth. He also ranks in the Top 100 Acoustic Guitarists and has over the years picked alongside Taj Mahal, John Hammond, Paul Jones, Little Feat, Maria Muldaur, Shawn Colvin and Leo Kottke, to name but a few.
In honour of his auspicious anniversary, Williams has re-recorded an album of his favourite songs from his 28-CD discography. Called ‘Work My Claim’, the songs reach across the span of years and include guest appearances from John Mc Cusker, Christine Collister, Aaron Catlow, Jim Henry, Ralf Grottian and Phil Richardson. The outcome is an acoustic tour-de-force – not to be missed!
The new album, due to be released on 7th February 2020 will be available for purchase on the night!

The Hermon welcomes back Kate Allan for more monthly singing sessions, offering the chance to share your singing voice with others to make music together.
FOR BEGINNERS heres an opportunity to find your singing voice (yes, its there!) in a supportive group!
You might be a CONFIDENT SINGER who wants to get away from the written page and see what comes from the group in the moment.
And for SONGWRITERS or anyone who would like to start making songs, this is a great way to open yourself up to fresh ideas and break the mould.
IN A CIRCLE, starting with gentle body and vocal warm-ups, we take any note, sing it together and then invite some of the group to add another note until weve built a chord, listening carefully to ourselves and each other.
THEN WE CAN
create and develop a rhythm
explore the different sounds we can make with our voices
vary the pitch (high, low), the sound, the speed and the volume
add some body percussion eg clapping, foot tapping
come up with new ideas as a group as we go
build confidence in and awareness of our own and other peoples voices
All this happens and develops very instinctively as our intuition, creativity and innate musicality come to life.
If youve never heard yourself SING FREELY, this is the chance to find that freedom in a judgement-free, natural way.
The sessions are facilitated by Kate Allan, an experienced freelance singer, songwriter and singing for health practitioner whose clients include the NHS, Severn Hospice and other health care providers.
