Tenbury Wells Spring Foraging Courses @ Burford House Gardens
Tickets
Mar 24 @ 12:00 pm – 3:30 pm
Tenbury Wells Spring Foraging Courses @ Burford House Gardens | Burford | England | United Kingdom

Built in 1728 Burford House and its beauiful gardens have been open to the public since 1958. At one point in the garden is the spot where the three counties of Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Shropshire meet. The countryside around theses three counties is both beautiful and rich in wild edible plants and fungi. On the outskirts of Tenbury Wells, it is within easy reach of Ludlow, Leominster, Bromyard, Kidderminster, Hereford, Worcester, Bridgnorth and Shrewbury.
We will meet outside the cafe at Burford House. The course starts there with a short introduction on what to look for and a brief of the general countryside codes, where they relate to foragers. Tea or coffee is available from the cafe.
Then we’ll set off on a roughly 2.5 hour walk around the grounds of Burford House park and along the River Teme, teaching you how to identify the different Spring shoots, plants, flowers and hopefully mushrooms that we find.
There will be a break along the way for some homemade refreshments such as our lovely hogweed and wild garlic soup.
After the walk we will end the day with a tasty wild food lunch based on what we have found. This will include some treats made from our recent finds, a wild salad that we will pick on the day and possibly even some wild garlic pesto.
After the course we will email you a list of everything we talk about on the day; to help you remember what you have learnt.
There are limited spaces available so please book your tickets online.

Round and About Walk @ The Town Hall | England | United Kingdom

Ramble, amble or scramble around the beautiful Shropshire Hills and help us beat blood cancer

Round and About Walks offer adventurous types the chance to ramble, amble or scramble through the Shropshire countryside. Participants can choose from three distinct routes and distances, catering for a wide range of abilities and experience.

Ramble – 23 miles
This beautiful circular walk rambles over the rolling Shropshire hills from and back to Bishops Castle, via Offa’s Dyke, the Shropshire Way, the Walcot Estate and Bury Ditches, with a welcome hot vegetarian lunch provided at Clun.

Scramble – 13 miles
This hill walk leaves Bishops Castle, to climb up to Offa’s Dyke from Mainstone, and enjoys views along the Cefns before dropping down to Clun, past its castle, for lunch and transport back to Bishops Castle.

Amble – 10 miles
Transport is provided to Clun for lunch, before an undulating stroll to Bury Ditches, then through the normally private Walcot Estate, and Oakley Mynd, to Bishops Castle.

The Scramble and Amble follow the same route as the Ramble, which crosses quite remote countryside, some of which is not normally open to the public. It is, however, particularly safe in that we provide clear signage, written instructions and helpful marshals.

Written instructions, refreshments, lunch, transport as needed, and a certificate are all provided.

Please note that we are unable to allow dogs on this walk. This is mostly due to the walk being entirely on agricultural land.

Register online or via postal entry. After 1 April, all entry fees rise to £20.
The impact

By taking part in this event, you’ll help us fund our ground-breaking research which has made such a difference to blood cancer.

Bishop's Castle Walking Festival 2019 @ Walking in Shropshire | Shrewsbury | United Kingdom

Bishop’s Castle is a small market town surrounded by the wonderful Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Beauty, near the Welsh border and off the beaten track. It is a welcoming place.

Our 21st annual Walking Festival will be held over five days in May, when the countryside is at its best.  The area is a walker’s paradise, with local footpaths leading over open hilltops, through winding valleys, tiny hamlets, country lanes and sometime the remains of ancient hill forts.  There are many amazing views.
