Following the cancellation of Classics at the College 2020, supporters of Hope House are back with Classics at the Castle for 2021.
Classic cars will enjoy a scenic drive around the beautiful Shropshire countryside, arriving at Whittington Castle around midday.
Cars will then be exhibited until 4pm at the castle. Kitchen@thecastle will be open to purchase refreshments and fundraising activities will be taking place in aid of Whittington Castle and Hope House.
Visitors can view the exhibited cars for free. Visitors and exhibitors can vote for their favourite car and the owner will receive a well earned trophy.
Common Threads is a community of practice; a group of designer-makers creating a range of textiles who met whilst studying Contemporary Constructed Textiles at Bradford School of Art in 2015. During the part-time course, Margot Bromley specialised in machine knitting, whilst Lin Carter, Fiona Catanach, Sue Christian and Nicola Rudd specialised in weaving, but like most textile enthusiasts they are not limited to just one craft.
As the course came to an end, they realised that they did not want to lose the collaborative nature of their learning and set up the group with the aim of meeting up two or three times a year to share ideas and challenge their creative practice. Although individual members of the group produce work in their own style, favouring particular yarns, techniques or finished products, each year they aim to use a ‘common thread’ in a project. It may be a set of pieces each favouring the same yarn or colour palette, or it could be a collection based on a share theme and common starting point.
Although they have kept in touch regularly online the pandemic has temporarily put a stop to their meeting up in person. This exhibition is an reflection of where their practice has taken each of them individually during their time apart.
Open Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 4pm.
