The Hermon proudly presents the BBC Award-Winning Duo ‘Edgelarks’ as opening act for the venue’s new 2018 Folk series!
Highlighted by The Guardian as “bravely original”, and described by Mark Radcliffe of BBC Radio 2 as “quite brilliant”, Phillip Henry and Hannah Martin are firmly established as a leading force of roots and acoustic music.
Their new project ‘Edgelarks’ blends violin- and vocals-based British traditional music with Indian classical slide guitar, stomping beatbox and harmonica to blistering effect. The eponymous new album has the pair’s strong stem of original writing running throughout, and runs wilder with every play. The album’s theme of borders and marginalisation could not be any timelier but do not fear that more winter depression is on the way! These two rare birds, as always, masterly transform reflections on life’s harsh realities into up-lifting, life-affirming messages of human potential and change.
A spirited duo full of integrity and exquisite musicianship – a must see!
“Extraordinary… I was absolutely blown away by them.”
– Tom Robinson BBC 6Music
“Keen, curious and concerned intellects are at work here. Hannah Martin is an enthralling singer; Phillip Henry plays all manner of guitars and the harmonica, terrifically.“
