Featuring Carl Bennetts provoking and insightful Photography along with Edward Mackenzie’s incredible assemblage Art
Our beautiful Gallery in Ironbridge is the perfect backdrop for displaying amazing works of Art. Our Summer exhibition features work from our core Artists including beautiful two plate etchings by Jenny Gunning, exquisite Hares and bowls by Liz Gunning, Dave Gunning’s latest large pencil on paper collection, Paul Gooderhams display of incredible Pottery, beautifully Fused Glass by Greg Anston Race, Charcoals by Rod Pountney and Handmade sterling silver jewellery by Liz Simmons and Jo Mollart Highfield.
Our Featured Artists Carl Bennett has traveled extensively throughout Europe and the UK capturing the natural beauty and texture of abandoned decaying buildings that are slowly being reclaimed by nature. Bennetts work is thought-provoking, intriguing and a little haunting.
Our International Featured Artists Edward Mackenzie work is absolutely fascinating. “I am a responder to things, objects for the most part, which is my media. Tubes of oil paint, brushes and old paintboxes often mean more to me than the art they are employed to make. I collect these and much more. In making art such material is my initial inspiration – responding to things I love – usually manufactured, often commonplace objects. I investigate and ‘play’ with whatever object I am working on and get to know the material in some depth. One could say I learn to speak its language and dance its dance.”
We are nine diverse, professional artists, based in mid-Shropshire, giving people an opportunity to visit our various studio spaces to see us working and discover what inspires us on our creative journeys. This is an ideal opportunity to buy artwork direct from the artists and gain a real insight in to our process. See our Facebook page (Mid-Shropshire Artists Open Studios) for a full list of artists and where their studios are located or start with Sue Payton at 101 High Street Newport and pick up a flyer with the addresses and contact details of the other 8 taking part. We are all in the Newport/Bridgnorth/Ironbridge areas.
Blists Hill Victorian Town will be ‘in steam’ on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 August, giving you a rare chance to get up close and personal with an array of Victorian steam powered machines, all of which will be in their full working splendour.
The town’s replica of Trevithick’s 1802 Coalbrookdale locomotive will be running; the original is believed to be the world’s first steam locomotive. Other Museum engines in steam will include ‘Billy’, a fantastic 1903 Wallis & Steevens road roller, the Merryweather fire pump and the Fielding oil engine as well as portable and ploughing engines.
In addition, there will be a variety of special guest engines, both large and small, around the Town throughout the weekend.
On both days you’ll be able to follow the Industrial Trail around the Victorian Town and make your very own mini steam engine.
Normal admission charges apply.
An event as part of ‘Ironbridge Lates’
Don’t miss our first ever comedy night – this promises to be a hugely popular and entertaining evening with a line-up of high profile celebrity comedians.
Our compare for the night is Tony Meresse. His compering style centres on making the audience very much a part of the show but in a way that the audience feel little pressure or embarrassment about being a part of the show (even if some were the butt of his jokes!)
Jonny Awsum exploded onto the comedy scene with a crowd-pleasing set, performing his special feel-good brand of musical comedy all over the world and becoming a much sought-after live act. Jonny will be familiar to views of ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent where he made it through to the live semi-finals. His performances on the show have been viewed more than 10 million times on YouTube!
Our headliner is Paul Tonkinson – a sensational live performer, Yorkshire man, marathon runner and former (double award-winning) Time Out Comedian of the Year, Paul has long upheld his esteemed reputation as one of the finest stand-ups the UK has to offer. With a unique and distinctive style, he’s noted for his effervescent physicality and skillful impressions, which bring alive exuberant, tender comic reflections on love, family and the day-to-day idiosyncrasies of 21st century living. A plethora of first class material, combined with tremendous charm and irrepressible, infectious energy make for quite a formidable talent.
Paul has joined the mighty Michael McIntyre several times as a special guest on live shows around the UK and on global arena tours.
Known to TV viewers Paul’s appeared on shows such as BBC One’s Michael Mcintyre’s Comedy Roadshow and Comedy Central’s The Comedy Store and The World Stands-up.

Come along to Enginuity for our first ever silent disco!
A silent disco has much in common with a regular disco or party, with one noticeable difference…there’s no music! That is until you put on a pair of headphones. Then you share in the experience of listening to up to 2 DJs playing at the same time, in the same room. But don’t worry, there is no horrible sound clash! Each pair of headphones has 2 channels chosen by a simple switch on the side of the headset, allowing you to choose your preferred choice of DJ/music.
Tickets are £12 per person. The event will run from 7pm-11pm in the Engine Shop, Coalbrookdale.
This event is suitable for people aged 18+. There will be a cash bar available throughout the night.
Join us for our annual Halloween fright night on Saturday 27 October, 6pm-9pm, at Blists Hill Victorian Town.

Spectacular family fireworks extravaganza with music will light up the night sky; wrap up warm, buy a cup of hot chocolate from the café, enjoy the smell of coal fires burning and talk to the townsfolk in their cottages, shops and other places of work as you make your way down to the Village Green for the show.
